‘Angelina Jolie’ – The World’s Most Powerful Celebrity by Forbes

angelina-jolieThe beautiful, the famous, the rich, the generous Angelina Jolie is proclaimed by Forbes as this year’s most powerful celebrity,  dethroning Oprah Winfrey who used to own the spot.

Her blockbuster movies and endless sea of media buzz helped Jolie earn the top list among the other 99 celebrities who made it to the world’s annual ranking of ultra famous.

Jolie earned $27 million in the past 12 months through her movies Kung Fu Panda, Wanted and the not-yet-released spy thriller Salt. Moreso the publicity she garnered following the birth of her twins, as well as the consistent headlines she grabs for her philanthropic efforts and her relationship with actor Brad Pitt, who ranks No. 9 on the list is a major contributor to her gaining the spot.

Though Winfrey drops to No. 2 on the list. She still is this year’s top earner who pocketed $275 million in the last year. Though viewership for her daily chat fest, The Oprah Winfrey Show, continues to erode, her earnings remain unchanged from a year ago. In addition to Winfrey’s monthly magazine, she has a three-year, $55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio. Early next year, the self-made billionaire will roll out the lifestyle-themed Oprah Winfrey Network in partnership with Discovery Communications.

Madonna came in third, trailed by Beyonce, Tiger Woods, Bruce Springsteen and Steven Spielberg. While Jennifer Aniston came in 8th and Brad Pitt on the 9th spot. 10th place goes to Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant whose success can also be attributed to his endorsement deals scored after the Beijing Olympics. Halfway on the list, President Barack Obama in 49th place whose worldwide fame, historic election and his career as a best-selling author played a big part.
